SEGONTIUM RESIDENCY OPPORTUNITY – EXTENDED DEADLINE

This residency is a collaborative project between the Arts Council of Wales and Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service.

Bursary: £12,000 for 6 months starting in May 2014

We are inviting applications from artists with a collaborative/participative approach to undertake this residency based at Segontium, the remains of a Roman Fort in Caernarfon.

The residency seeks to investigate Segontium, making visible the history of the site to a modern audience via artistic enquiry and practice.

The proposal is therefore to engage an artist for a six-month period to work with Cadw staff, local groups & associations and visitors in order to investigate and research some of these ideas.

Outcomes

The material outcomes of the residency are open and may take the form of temporary or semi-permanent artworks. Work may be sited in the town or at other sites.

The Artist

The artist will be someone interested in working within a historical site with an interest in archaeology, environment, history or cartography with previous experience of working with others to develop ideas. An ethos of collaborative practice and engagement is uppermost.

This opportunity is open to UK and International Artists. However, the ability to communicate in Welsh is essential. As such, collaborative applications are welcome, however you must clearly demonstrate your strategy for delivery through the Welsh language.

Payment

The selected artist will be paid in installments to be agreed on appointment. This £12,000 artists fee is inclusive of all travel costs and living expenses. Assistance finding local accommodation is available from staff.

An additional budget of £3,000 for materials is available.

How to Apply:

To apply for this residency, please send the following information to tracy@addocreative.com by 28th March 2014:

  • Up to 10 digital images in a PDF document or a Powerpoint presentation, or a 10-minute (max) showreel. All work should be numbered and include, title, date, dimension and media;
